Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
In a strategic political move aimed at reinforcing grassroots democracy, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has appointed 23 key coordinators—one for each Local Government Area (LGA) in the state—to spearhead the All Progressives Congress (APC) agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the APC’s expanded caucus meeting held in Makurdi, Governor Alia described the appointees as frontline drivers of democratic inclusion and party consolidation at the local level. He emphasized that their primary role is to “coordinate APC activities in their respective LGAs” and ensure that the party remains a dominant force across all communities.
“You must be good ambassadors of this progressive government. Go out there and mobilize aggressively for the APC. Make the party the preferred choice of every Benue citizen,” Alia charged.
The governor also stressed the importance of reconnecting the government to the grassroots, noting that political power must be felt in every corner of the state. “You will be held accountable if any intervention meant for the people is diverted,” he warned.
As part of their mandate, the newly appointed LGA point men are to play a central role in the ongoing continuous voter registration (CVR). Alia directed them to engage with local stakeholders to ensure mass participation, describing the exercise as “critical,” particularly with the general elections approaching.
“We will support you wherever necessary because this is an important national duty,” he said.
Alia used the platform to discourage the trend of escalating minor political disputes to the state capital. “Stop bringing every little disagreement to Makurdi. These point men will now serve as central conflict-resolvers. Only unresolved or major issues should get to me,” he stated firmly.
In a bid to empower the youth and drive employment, the governor instructed the coordinators to compile a list of 200 skilled artisans and 800 young people across the state who are ready to travel abroad for technical training. However, candidates must first secure a certificate of medical fitness from Father Adasu University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi.
Governor Alia rounded off the meeting by thanking party faithful for their unwavering support. He reiterated his commitment to transparent governance and unity within the APC. “Our administration will continue to be fair, responsible, and accountable. The APC is a party that never settles for less,” he assured.
