Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar
A Lagos State PDP Chieftain, Prince Laja Adeoye, has expressed disappointment over former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s involvement in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform adopted by his opposition coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Adeoye, a House of Representatives hopeful in Oshodi-Isolo Federal Constituency, criticized Atiku’s leadership, saying his actions lack moral integrity.
“For a political leader like Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to publicly come out to display and wear the cap of ADC when we have not heard that he had left PDP does not show moral and sincere leadership,” Adeoye said.
He believed that Atiku should have resigned from PDP before joining the ADC, just like some APC leaders did.
Adeoye predicted the coalition will collapse due to internal crises and leadership issues.
“When people are building a house not on truth and honesty, it is bound to collapse. A lot of crises will emerge. They are not coming together to rescue Nigeria,” he said.
He also questioned the coalition’s structure, noting that APC’s success in 2014 was due to its strong foundation and control of several states.
Despite the coalition efforts, Adeoye remains confident in PDP’s strength.
“PDP still remains the strongest opposition party in terms of structure and people. Atiku Abubakar can only take a fraction of PDP away,” he said.
The party is set to hold a National Convention before December, which will bring about new leadership and structural changes.
Adeoye questioned Atiku’s consistency as a leader, citing his past party affiliations.
“Atiku’s movement to ADC after his party-to-party political voyages does not portray him as a committed and consistent leader. This is not leadership.
“Leadership is all about consistency and building consensus, not jumping from one place to another,” he said.
