50-year old ex-convict rapes 4-year old girl in Bauchi mosque

Lawyer attributes rise in rape incidences to poor enforcement of laws

ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi

The Police in Bauchi has said that it has arrested a serial rapist for allegedly defiling a 4-year old girl inside a mosque in Bauchi.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakili, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, disclosed this in a statement released to journalists on Saturday.

He said a team of Police Officers rescued the suspect while he was being mobbed and later arrested him.

Wakili said that the 50-year old is an ex-convict who was arrested in 2001 and 2005 and jailed for rape offences.

“On the 03/09/2020 at about 11.30am, one Jamilu Abdullahi, Male, of Igbo Quarters, reported at the Township Police Station that on same date at about 9.20am, an angry mob was beating an unknown person at Aminu Street and a team of police officers moved to the scene and rescued the suspect with various degrees of injuries.

“He was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. He was identified as Yusuf Bako, Male, (50) of Yakubu Wanka Street Bauchi. He lured one Hauwa’u Jamilu, female, (4) to a Mosque located at Aminu Street and had canal knowledge of her,” he stated.

He added that: “Yusuf Bako confessed to the crime. Upon interrogation, he stated that he was arrested and imprisoned sometimes in the year 2001 and 2015 for the same offence.” 

The Police Spokesman said that the suspect claimed to be among the fortunate inmates recently pardoned by the State just before the Coronavirus pandemic.

“The Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command, CP Lawan Jimeta, called on the good people of the state to continue exercising their civil responsibility giving vital information that may ease police in its operations to steam the state of all form of crime and criminality,” he said.
