50-year-old man in court over alleged N300,000 fraud

A 50-year-old man, Adewuyi Adesakin, was, on Wednesday, arraigned before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court over alleged N300,000 fraud.

The Prosecutor, Insp Adesina Elijah, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in 2013 at Ondo Road area of Ile-Ife.

Elijah said that the defendant intended to defraud by obtaining the sum of N300,000 from one Ajike Adeaga, under the pretence of selling one plot of land to him.

He added that the defendants knew that the promise of selling the land, belonging to the Oyetade family and situated at Ondo Road, Ile-Ife was false.

The prosecutor added that the defendant fraudulently obtained the amount from the claimant and converted it to his own use.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 383, 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud.

The Defence Counsel, Mr M. I. Babatunde, pleaded for bail for the defendant in the most liberal term, promising that he would not jump bail, but would produce substantial sureties.

Magistrate A.I. Oyebadejo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Oyebadejo said that the sureties must swear to affidavits of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, present three-year tax clearance certificates and three recent passport photographs each.

The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till May 5, for hearing. (NAN)
