Oyo State Police Command has arrested five suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms, ammunition and various criminal charms during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Ibadan.
The operation, which formed part of ongoing intelligence-led efforts to tackle violent crime across the state, was carried out by police operatives in the early hours of June 12, 2026.
According to the Command, officers acting on credible intelligence stormed a residence in the Gbeku area of Olodo, Ibadan, linked to one Surajudeen Babatunde Adio, popularly known as “Surii Ilupeju.”
The raid, conducted at about 1:00 a.m., led to the arrest of five suspected members of a criminal syndicate allegedly operating within the area.
The suspects were identified as Ahmed Nafiu, 43; Olukunmi Olaniyi, 36; Femi Odeyinde, 53; Jelili Akinade, 50; and Muhideen Adio, 27.
Police said a comprehensive search of the premises yielded several exhibits believed to be connected to criminal activities.
Items recovered include one pump-action gun, one cut-to-size single-barrel gun, eight live cartridges, a native bullet-proof vest, two bottles of suspected charm-induced syrup and assorted charms, alongside other incriminating materials.
The suspects have since been taken into custody, while investigators work to determine the extent of their alleged involvement in criminal activities and identify other members of the syndicate who may still be at large.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the state of violent criminals.
“He further assures residents that intelligence-led operations and targeted raids of identified criminal hideouts will continue until all criminal elements are brought to justice.”
The police commissioner also reiterated the Command’s commitment to combating armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping and other violent crimes across Oyo State.
The Command appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with useful information that could aid crime-fighting efforts.
“The Command urges members of the public to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information, assuring that all information received will be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
The latest operation underscores the Command’s ongoing strategy of intelligence-driven policing aimed at dismantling criminal networks and improving public safety across the state.
