The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed Dr Edward Adie of the University of Calabar as the Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Institute (PDI), its intellectual and research base.
The National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Ologunagba, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
He said the appointment was parts of efforts to further reposition the party for stronger political engagement.
Ologunagba said that he appointment of Adie came after a painstaking interview and selection process by the party.
He described Adie as a versatile researcher and expert in Nigerian democracy, political communication and development discourse with over 35 research works published in both international and local platforms.
He added that Adie was also reputed to have organised several international and national academic conferences.
“Adie brings on board years of experience and research on democracy and political development to the PDI which has been repositioned to further provide the PDP with research-based data for enhanced democratic practice, electioneering and governance,” he said.
Ologunagba said that the PDI assisted in providing strategic roadmaps for the feats recorded by successive PDP administrations.
This according to him include building the Nigerian economy to become one of the fastest growing in the world from 1999 to 2015 and handing over of a 550 billion dollars economy to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015.
Ologunagba urged Nigerians especially PDP stakeholders and policy makers to take advantage of the research data from the PDI for effective management of resources at their various levels of engagement.
