Akwa Ibom State Government has blamed political mischief makers and detractors for exploiting a deeply emotional family moment to circulate a video on the social media alleging that Governor Umo Eno was behind the death of his wife last year .
The state government stated that the video was influenced by false prophets who mislead the governor’s daughter to believe that the “family’s involvement in politics contributed to the death of her mother adding that the “daughter was simply seeking the attention and reassurance of her father during a time of deep grief.’’
The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Mr Aniekan Umanah, stated this in a statement made available to the media in Uyo, the state capital.
Mr. Umanah noted that the video in question “captures an incident that occurred shortly after the painful passing of the governor’s wife last year,” adding that “it was disheartening that a private and traumatic moment involving a grieving young girl is now being maliciously weaponized in an attempt to tarnish the image of the governor and score cheap political points.”
“It is unfortunate and deeply regrettable that certain individuals in our society would twist such a tender family moment to suit their false and malicious agenda.These actions reflect the desperation of those unsettled by the Governor’s visible , verifiable and widely celebrated achievements.
“The Government is aware of these antics and the merchants of misinformation behind them. We urged the public to treat such content with the contempt it deserves and to remain vigilant against those who thrive on distortion and division,’’ he stated.
The commissioner quoted the governor as saying that his family remains intact and united.
He called on well-meaning Akwa Ibom people and members of the public to “disregard false narratives and remain steadfast in their support for the Governor’s vision and purpose driven leadership,’’ adding that in just two years of his administration, the Governor has recorded unprecedented accomplishments in many sectors including agriculture, rural development, infrastructure, security among others.
NATIONAL recalled that in the past few weeks, a video has been circulating online purported to be shared by Jane, the governor’s daughter alleging that her mother whose death occurred last year might have been due to the involvement of her father in politics. The family denies this and maintains that it is a closely-nit family without any divisions.
