Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has taken delivery of four 50-seater hybrid Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses from the Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI) to enhance public transportation in the capital.
During the handover ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, represented by Mr. Chinedum Elechi, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Transportation Secretariat, stated that the buses, capable of carrying up to 200 passengers, operate on both CNG and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
This aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Wike emphasized that a reliable public transportation system is essential for any thriving modern city.
“It serves residents who rely on affordable transport, as well as tourists who depend on efficient public systems,” he said.
He highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including new roads, bridges, and bus terminals, noting that two modern terminals in Mabushi and Kugbo have been commissioned, with a third in the Central Area nearing completion.
The minister announced plans to acquire additional buses to further improve transportation in the capital and praised President Tinubu for including the FCTA in the initiative.
PCNGI Programme Director and Chief Executive, Mr. Michael Oluwagbemi, presented the bus keys to the minister, explaining that the initiative aims to provide Nigerians with a cost-effective, safe, and dependable transport system.
He commended the FCTA for its strong support of the PCNGI and its investments in roads and bus terminals.
“The FCTA’s commitment to transportation makes it a key beneficiary of this program,” Oluwagbemi said. “We envision a future where residents can rely on these buses for daily commutes, leaving their private vehicles at home, as seen in advanced cities worldwide.”
