Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo voiced dissatisfaction with the sluggish performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) during the ongoing by-election in Edo Central Senatorial District.
Speaking after voting at Udomi Primary School’s Ward 2, Polling Unit 1 in Esan Central Local Government, Okpebholo told reporters that while the process remained peaceful, the BVAS machines, managed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), were significantly slowing down voter accreditation.
“I’ve just cast my vote, but the BVAS is frustratingly slow. Accreditation takes far too long. INEC needs to address this issue. That said, the reports I’m receiving are positive overall,” Okpebholo noted.
Despite the delays, he praised INEC for maintaining a peaceful electoral process and encouraged voters across the senatorial district to turn out in large numbers and protect their votes.
“The exercise here has been orderly, and I’m hearing similar reports from other parts of the district. INEC is managing well. I urge everyone to come out, vote, and safeguard their votes,” he added.
The by-election aims to fill the senatorial seat left vacant after Okpebholo’s election as Edo State Governor.
