
Borno State Deputy Governor, His Excellency Umar Kadafur, represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Alhaji Haruna Tella, attended the investiture and fundraising dinner of the Rotary Club of Maiduguri at Pinnacle Hotel.
The event marked the installation of Rotarian AbdulKareem Haruna as the club’s 3rd President.
Delivering a speech on behalf of the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Tella praised Rotary International for its global commitment to service, compassion, and selflessness, emphasizing the club’s motto, “ _Service Above Self.”_
He congratulated Rotarian Haruna, expressing confidence in his leadership to advance humanitarian service, education, youth empowerment, and community health in Maiduguri.
Tella highlighted the state government’s dedication to partnering with organizations like Rotary to enhance humanitarian aid, literacy, and peacebuilding efforts for Borno’s development.
He stressed the significance of the fundraising event, noting that every contribution is an investment in humanity, restoring hope and dignity to communities.
On behalf of the Deputy Governor, Tella pledged N5 million to support the club’s initiatives.
Other notable donations included N1 million each from Deputy Speaker Abdullahi Musa Askira, Commissioner of Finance Hon. Umar Lawan Dalorima, and Executive Secretary of the Education Trust Fund, Dr. Maina Yaumi. Abubakar Sadiq Muazu, CEO of CATAI Foundation, donated N500,000, while Barrister Mustapha Ali Busuguma, represented by a Senior Special Assistant, and Mohammed Adamu, Principal Private Secretary, pledged N500,000 and N200,000, respectively. Additional contributions came from permanent secretaries and other attendees.
The event also featured awards of excellence presented to individuals and organizations for their selfless service to humanity.
