Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani
Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has commended Governor Uba Sani for approving the release of N4.289 billion for the payment of gratuities, death benefits and accrued rights, describing the move as a clear demonstration of commitment to retirees’ welfare.
In a letter jointly signed by the State Executive Chairman, Aboman Ladan, and Secretary, Alhassan Balarabe Musa, the union said the intervention has rekindled hope among pensioners and restored confidence in government’s readiness to address their long-standing concerns.
The union noted that the disbursement, which covers 1,637 beneficiaries across the Contributory Pension Scheme and the Defined Benefit Scheme, has brought relief to many retirees and families of deceased workers who had waited for years to receive their entitlements.
According to the breakdown, N3.915 billion was allocated to 1,392 pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme as accrued rights, while N374 million is being paid to 245 beneficiaries under the Defined Benefit Scheme for gratuities and death benefits.
The pensioners described the gesture as timely, stressing that it has eased hardship and reaffirmed faith in the administration’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
“For numerous bereaved families, this intervention has lifted a heavy burden and restored their confidence in government,” the union stated, while expressing appreciation for the governor’s compassion and prioritisation of senior citizens.
However, the union urged the state government to address outstanding pension liabilities, noting that some retirees—particularly the elderly—are yet to receive their benefits.
The letter, dated April 16, 2026, expressed optimism that the governor would clear all pending obligations, citing his track record since assuming office.
It added that with the latest release, the administration has so far disbursed a total of N17.796 billion to 8,344 retirees and next-of-kin of deceased workers across the state.
