In a series of decisive operations across Nigeria, the Nigerian Army has successfully disrupted multiple terrorist attacks and freed 14 kidnapped individuals within a 24-hour period.
A reliable source from Army Headquarters informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that troops from 1 Brigade, operating under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, liberated nine hostages during a combat patrol in Faskari, Katsina State.
“Three additional victims were rescued during an ambush operation in Anka, Zamfara State, and two others were freed in Keana, Nasarawa State, by Operation Whirl Stroke,” the source stated.
All rescued individuals have been safely reunited with their families or handed over to appropriate authorities.
The source further revealed that troops detained six suspected logistics suppliers linked to the Lakurawa terrorist group in Kebbi and Sokoto States. “In Taraba, three impostors posing as police and forest guards were apprehended,” the source added.
In the Niger Delta, operations led to the interception of illegally refined petroleum products in Akwa Ibom and Rivers States, with two suspects arrested. Additionally, two armed individuals possessing locally made weapons were captured in Delta State.
The operations yielded significant recoveries, including arms, ammunition, vehicles, identity cards, petroleum products, explosives, materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and ₦193,000 in cash.
“Through intensified patrols, clearance, and offensive operations, in collaboration with the Police, DSS, NSCDC, and vigilantes, the army continues to restrict the operational freedom of terrorists and criminal elements across all regions,” the source told NAN.
