Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Olufemi Oluyede
Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede addressed Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) graduands on Friday, declaring that the nation’s future hinges on their resolve and readiness to step up.
He delivered the message at a Regimental Dinner celebrating the cadets of the 72 Regular Course, Short Service Course 48 (Army), Direct Short Service Course 33 (Air Force), and Branch Commission 2 (Air Force).
Oluyede expressed gratitude to the Commandant for selecting him as Special Guest of Honor, cherishing the chance to mentor the emerging military leaders.
He highlighted the Armed Forces’ pivotal role in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty, positioning the new officers as vital contributors to this enduring mission.
The COAS called on them to embody the foundational principles of their branches—professionalism, endurance, and unwavering allegiance to the country.
Acknowledging the ever-shifting and intricate security environment, he pointed out that emerging conflicts would increasingly rely on cutting-edge technology.
To thrive, Oluyede advised the cadets to embrace rapid adaptation, cultivate tech proficiency, and foster creative problem-solving.
He underscored leadership, mutual trust, and responsibility as cornerstones of military excellence, advocating for strategic foresight paired with bold resolve amid unpredictability.
Oluyede praised the NDA’s Commandant, faculty, and trainers for their outstanding efforts, while extending hearty congratulations to the graduating class.
He also voiced appreciation for President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to bolstering the Nigerian Armed Forces.
“I equally appreciate the Minister of Defence, Minister of State for Defence, the Chief of Defence Staff, and members of the Nigerian Defence Academy Council for their invaluable support.
“However, I must remind you that every successful outcome remains uncertain until the very end.
“It is therefore not over until it is over. God willing, on Sept. 27, I will see each one of you seated here, successfully march past the saluting dais with your heads held up high,” he said.
He added: “To our soon-to-be officers, I congratulate you once again and wish you all the best of luck and most fulfilling careers in your respective Services.” (NAN)
