Former Aviation Minister, Fani Kayode
Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has urged the Federal Government not to engage in dialogue with terrorists who have terrorised the Nigeria for years.
Speaking on Tuesday in Akure at the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Law Week, Akure Branch, Fani-Kayode said the government must confront the insurgents decisively instead of seeking reconciliation.
According to him, individuals who deliberately take the lives of others do not deserve leniency.
> “People that dedicate their lives to taking the lives of others, in my view, have no right to life. They must be eliminated, they must be crushed, they must be destroyed,” he declared.
“No negotiation, no discussion, no compromise, no giving them any excuses or saying they’ve changed. It is incumbent upon the state, each and every officer of the state, at every level of the state, to crush the vermin that behaves in that way.”
The former minister commended Nigerians for standing strong in the face of internal and external threats, saying the country has continued to resist any attempt to divide it.
> “Over the years, Nigerians have faced various threats to our unity, but we have refused to bow,” he said.
“We will solve our problems. We are getting better at it every day. We are moving forward as a nation.”
Fani-Kayode also threw his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s ongoing reforms, noting that they were designed to strengthen Nigeria’s sovereignty and reduce external dependence.
Aiyedatiwa Reaffirms Commitment to Rule of Law
In his address, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State reiterated his administration’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and supporting judicial reforms.
Represented by the Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the governor said the state government has continued to invest in court infrastructure, digitisation of legal processes, and closer collaboration with the judiciary.
He urged legal practitioners to remain steadfast in their duty as defenders of justice and the voiceless.
> “Lawyers remain the conscience of the nation, the advocates of the voiceless, and the guardians of truth and conscience,” Aiyedatiwa said.
Meanwhile, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chairman of Vanguard Newspapers, Mr. Sam Amuka-Pemu, fondly known as “Uncle Sam,” was honoured with the Friend of the Bar Award during the event.
