Nigerian Government has confirmed significant progress in the payment of match bonuses and allowances owed to members of the Super Eagles at the ongoing AFCON 2025, assuring players and Nigerians that all outstanding disbursements are being concluded.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Uzoka-Anite, said the government, working closely with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has resolved earlier administrative bottlenecks affecting the processing of foreign exchange for the national team’s bonuses.
“I am pleased to provide an update on the administrative progress regarding the match bonuses for our national team at AFCON 2025,” the minister said.

According to her, the Federal Government and the CBN have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange process to ensure that players receive their entitlements without further delay.
“The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay,” Uzoka-Anite stated.
She added that measures have now been put in place to prevent similar delays in the future, noting that the payment framework will be fully aligned with global standards.
“Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster, more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice,” she said.
Providing a breakdown of the progress so far, the minister disclosed that all bonuses for the group stage matches have been fully funded and cleared through the required regulatory channels.
“Funding: All group-stage bonuses were fully released and have now cleared the necessary regulatory stages,” she said.
Uzoka-Anite also revealed that the government introduced an accelerated conversion mechanism to meet the players’ preference for foreign currency payments.
“Acceleration: We have implemented a fast-track conversion process to move funds into foreign currency, honouring the players’ preferences,” the statement read.
On the final stage of payment, she confirmed that transfers to players’ domiciliary accounts are already underway.
“Disbursement: The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today or tomorrow,” she added.
The finance minister stressed that the government’s priority remains the welfare and motivation of the Super Eagles as they continue their campaign in the tournament.
“Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds,” Uzoka-Anite said.
She concluded by reaffirming the nation’s collective ambition for the team, declaring, “We move forward with one goal: Bringing the trophy home!”
