Super Eagles of Nigeria delivered a statement performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), dismantling Mozambique 4–0 to book a comfortable place in the quarter-finals.
The round-of-16 clash, staged on Monday at the Complexe Sportif de Fès in Morocco, turned into a one-sided contest as Nigeria’s attacking line ran riot, showing pace, precision and ruthless finishing.
Ademola Lookman set the tone midway through the first half, breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute with a classy finish into the top corner after latching onto a well-timed square pass from the energetic Akor Adams.
Five minutes later, Victor Osimhen doubled Nigeria’s advantage, calmly converting to tighten the Super Eagles’ grip on the game. The Napoli striker struck again moments after the restart in the 47th minute, effectively extinguishing any hopes of a Mozambican comeback and underlining Nigeria’s title credentials.
The pressure never eased, and Akor Adams crowned an outstanding all-round performance with his first goal of the tournament in the 75th minute. His powerful close-range effort proved too much for goalkeeper Ernan Siluane, sealing a comprehensive victory.
With confidence soaring, Nigeria now await the winner of the tie between Algeria and DR Congo in Saturday’s quarter-final, as the Super Eagles continue their push for a fourth AFCON crown.
