
Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Thursday joined dignitaries from across Nigeria to pay final respects to renowned cleric, Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai, at a solemn funeral ceremony held at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, Abia State.
Among prominent personalities present at the burial was the Governor of Abia State, Dr Alex Otti, alongside religious leaders, political figures, and Nigerians from different walks of life who gathered to honour the late evangelist’s legacy.

“A Life of Faith and Service: Farewell to Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai,” Obi wrote while reflecting on the solemn gathering.
“Yesterday, I joined Nigerians from all walks of life to pay our last respects to a great man of God, Rev. Dr Uma Ukpai, at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia. It was a solemn yet deeply inspiring gathering – one that reflected the breadth of lives he touched and the enduring legacy he leaves behind.”
The former Anambra State governor noted that the late Ukpai’s ministry extended beyond preaching, describing him as a man who lived out his faith through service and compassion.

“Rev. Dr Ukpai was not only a preacher of the Word but a living embodiment of it, marked by humility, compassion, and commitment to the service of God and humanity. His life was a testament to faith in action, as he laboured tirelessly to uplift souls, strengthen families, and guide communities along the path of righteousness.”
