
An aspirant for the Plateau Central Senatorial seat, David Barji has said he would support the establishment State Police if elected into the National Assembly.
Barji, who is contesting under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said this on Wednesday in Bokkos.
The central senatorial district consist of Mangu, Bokkos, Kanam, Kanke and Pankshin Local Government Areas of Plateau.
Recently, gunmen have consistently attacked and destroyed properties in communities in the senatorial zone
The 44-year-old aspirant spoke shortly after a meeting with the officials and other stakeholders of the party in the locality.
Barji, who said that the meeting was to formally declare his intention to run for the office, insisted that he poses the qualities to represent the people in the red chamber.
The aspirant promised to initiate bills and motions aimed at tackling the security challenges currently confronting the people.
He particularly argued that state police would ensure adequate security of lives and property in communities.
“I have worked in the national assembly for over two decades, so I understand the rudiments of quality legislation and representation.
“I understand the security challenges of our people. If elected, I will not only stand for peace, but will initiate bills and motions that will entrench lasting peace.
“I will also support adequate budgetary allocation for the security agencies to enable them tackle insecurity optimally.
“Most importantly, I will support state police. This is important because the personnel will come from the same community they are safeguarding,”he said.
Barji promised to be available and accessible to his constituents, adding that he would initiate programmes that would boost economic drive of the people.
The aspirant also promised not to fail the people, adding that as a youth, he represnts both the current and future generation.
Barji, who appealed to the party leaders to vote him in the forthcoming primaries, called on Plateau residents to support the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang.
