Sokoto State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has endorsed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s sole presidential candidate ahead of the ADC presidential primaries scheduled for Monday.
The endorsement was announced on Sunday during a press briefing held at the party’s secretariat in Sokoto.
Speaking at the briefing, former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Aminu Tambuwal, Alhaji Muktar Magori, said the decision followed wide consultations and deliberations among party stakeholders across the state.
According to Magori, “This press conference was convened to convey the consensus agreement reached by the people of Sokoto State and the ADC to adopt His Excellency, the former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Wazirin Adamawa, as the sole Presidential candidate of our great party, the ADC.
“This is sequel to the build up for the forthcoming presidential primaries of the party as well as the 2027 general elections.”
Magori described Atiku as an experienced and intelligent leader with the capacity to steer Nigeria out of its current socio-economic and political challenges.
He also appealed to Nigerians to vote out the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, accusing the party of poor performance at different levels of governance.
The event attracted several prominent figures within the party and government circles, including the Sokoto ADC Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu; the state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Dahiru Maishanu; and former Head of Service, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad, alongside other party stakeholders and supporters.
Party insiders said the endorsement reflects the growing political alignment in Sokoto around Senator Tambuwal, who is believed to have strong confidence in Atiku Abubakar’s ability to reposition Nigeria and address the nation’s current challenges.
