Marcus Rashford will return to Manchester United after Barcelona decided against activating the €30 million purchase option in his loan deal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The clause is set to expire in five days, ending any immediate prospect of a permanent transfer under the current agreement.
Rashford leaves Spain with solid numbers behind him, finishing the 2025/26 season with 14 goals and 14 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. He featured regularly and played a steady role in Barcelona’s attack.
Despite that, Barcelona have opted not to move for him permanently. The decision comes shortly after the club’s signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, which has boosted their options in wide attacking areas and reduced the need for another big investment in that position.
Even so, the door is not fully closed.
Romano reports that Barcelona are still open to talking, with a possible return on loan now on the table if Manchester United are willing to negotiate.
Rashford is expected back at Old Trafford for now, with his future still unclear as United weigh up their plans for the squad ahead of the new season.
Barcelona may have stepped away from the €30 million deal, but interest in a different arrangement still lingers.
