Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has airlifted sensitive electoral materials for the Ekiti State governorship election and other off-cycle polls scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026.
The operation was carried out between June 15 and 16 following a request from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the movement of sensitive materials from Abuja to different parts of the country.
Among the elections scheduled for Saturday is the Ekiti governorship poll.
Also holding are senatorial by-elections in Enugu North Senatorial District, Nasarawa North Senatorial District and Rivers South East Senatorial District.
Federal constituency by-elections will also take place in Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State and Zuru/Shanga Federal Constituency in Kebbi State.
A statement issued by the NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the materials were flown from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to designated airports in Enugu, Rivers and Kano states to ensure they reached INEC officials before election day.
Air Commodore Ejodame said the mission formed part of its support to civil authorities and efforts to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
He quoted the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, as praising the personnel involved in the operation, saying the successful movement of the materials reflected the Air Force’s commitment to supporting democratic institutions and national development.
He also reaffirmed the NAF’s readiness to assist civil authorities whenever required while maintaining its operational responsibilities across the country.
He said the timely delivery of sensitive electoral materials remains crucial to the conduct of credible elections and noted that its partnership with INEC has continued to play a role in the country’s electoral process.
The Air Force spokesman said the operation was completed successfully and demonstrated the service’s airlift capability as well as its continued support for national institutions during major democratic exercises.
