Lagos State has intensified preparations for the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards following an inspection visit by a CAF delegation to assess the city’s readiness to host the prestigious continental event.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed on Monday that officials of the Lagos State Sports Commission received the CAF team and escorted them on an inspection of the proposed venue for the awards ceremony.
According to the governor, the visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to evaluate the facilities and share observations as preparations gather momentum.
“Earlier today, officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission received the Confederation of African Football team in Lagos for their inspection visit ahead of the 2026 CAF Awards,” Sanwo-Olu wrote on his X account.
He added, “We guided them through the venue and gathered their feedback. Hosting an event of this scale means every single detail counts and our team is working hard behind the scenes to make sure we get it right.”
The governor expressed confidence in the state’s ability to successfully host one of African football’s biggest annual events, assuring that efforts are ongoing to meet the required standards.
“Lagos is ready and we look forward to putting on a brilliant show for African football,” he said.
The 2026 CAF Awards will bring together some of the continent’s biggest football stars, administrators and stakeholders, with Lagos aiming to showcase its capacity to host major international sporting events.
