
Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman for allegedly killing her 97-year-old grandmother following a domestic dispute in Daura Local Government Area of the state.
Police said the incident occurred on June 12, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m., after a disagreement reportedly broke out between the suspect and her paternal grandmother at their residence.
According to preliminary investigations, the argument escalated and the young woman allegedly struck the elderly woman on the head with a wooden chair, leaving her with severe injuries.
The incident was reported to the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station by the suspect’s father, prompting officers to swiftly respond to the scene. Upon arrival, police operatives found the nonagenarian lying unconscious in a pool of blood.
The victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. However, medical personnel later confirmed her death.
Spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed that the suspect was arrested during the course of the investigation and reportedly admitted to committing the act.
He stated that the suspect remains in police custody while detectives conclude their investigation. She is expected to be arraigned in court once the investigation is completed.
The police command assured residents that justice would be pursued in the matter and pledged to provide updates as the case progresses.
Authorities have urged members of the public to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid acts of violence that could lead to loss of life.
