Six people lost their lives while eight others were rescued after a devastating multi-vehicle crash triggered a fire outbreak near the Ibadan Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday night.
The Oyo State Fire Service said its personnel responded swiftly to the emergency after receiving a distress call at about 9:29 p.m.
According to the agency, the accident involved six vehicles, including gas tankers, articulated trucks and two cars.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and worked to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to nearby vehicles and properties.
The rescued victims were handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for medical attention.
Explaining what happened, the agency said: “Upon arrival, we discovered that the accident involved six (6) vehicles, including gas tankers and articulated trucks, and two (2) cars, resulting in a fire outbreak.”
Preliminary investigations indicated that brake failure was responsible for the tragic collision.
