Nigeria has emerged as the highest-ranked African country at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after finishing seventh on the overall medals table with an impressive haul of 24 medals.
Team Nigeria wrapped up its campaign in Glasgow, Scotland, with 10 gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, underlining the country’s growing strength across several sporting disciplines at the international event.
The Games, held from July 23 to August 2, attracted athletes from across the Commonwealth, with Nigeria delivering one of its strongest performances to secure the continent’s top position on the final medals standings.
Australia dominated the competition, finishing first with 70 gold medals. England claimed second place, while Canada, India, host nation Scotland and New Zealand completed the top six. New Zealand finished just ahead of Nigeria, leaving the West African nation in seventh place overall.
