West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates across Nigeria.
The examination body announced the release on Wednesday through its official X account, urging candidates to access their results through its online portal.
“UPDATE: 2026 WASSCE (SC) results have been released. Generate your PIN at waec.org and check your results now on waecdirect.org,” WAEC stated.
According to the examination body, 1,950,726 candidates sat for the 2026 WASSCE, which was conducted nationwide between April 21 and June 19.
An analysis of the results shows that 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54 per cent of those who wrote the examination, obtained at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC also disclosed that 1,687,378 candidates, equivalent to 86.50 per cent, earned five credits or more, regardless of whether they passed English Language and Mathematics.
The council said 1,834,695 candidates, representing 94.05 per cent of the total candidates, have had their results fully processed and released. However, it noted that the results of 116,031 candidates, or 5.95 per cent, are still being processed.
On examination malpractice, WAEC revealed that the results of 167,486 candidates, representing 8.59 per cent of the total entries, have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into alleged violations of examination rules.
The council explained that the figure marks a decline from the 9.7 per cent recorded in the 2025 WASSCE.
According to WAEC, the major forms of malpractice recorded during the examination included the use of mobile phones in examination halls and organised cheating in some schools.
The council further disclosed that some supervisors and invigilators implicated in examination malpractice have been arrested and will face disciplinary action in line with relevant regulations.
How to check 2026 WASSCE Results
WAEC advised candidates to obtain their Serial Number and PIN before attempting to check their results.
To generate the required credentials, candidates are to visit WAEC’s official website and select the “Serial Number and PIN” option. They will be required to choose the appropriate examination year and diet, provide their examination number and the same National Identification Number (NIN) used during registration, and enter their email address and phone number to receive a One-Time Password (OTP).
After verifying the OTP, candidates can retrieve their Serial Number and PIN and use them to access their results through the WAEC Direct portal.
