United States (US) Mission in Nigeria has expressed its support for Nigeria’s young athletes ahead of their participation in the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon, United States.
The mission, in a post on its official X handle, @USinNigeria, on Thursday, wished the Nigerian contingent success as the country’s emerging athletes prepare to compete against some of the world’s best young talents.
“Mission Nigeria wishes Nigeria’s U-20 athletes the very best as they take on the world at the 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships in Oregon, United States!” the mission said.
The US Mission described the championship as an important platform for Nigeria’s next generation of athletes to demonstrate their abilities and compete at the highest level.
“This is an opportunity for Nigeria’s next generation of champions to showcase their talent, determination, and excellence on the world stage,” it added.
Beyond the sporting contest, the mission said Nigeria’s participation in the championship also reflected the broader ties between Nigeria and the United States.
It noted that the two countries continue to build connections across several areas, including education, sports and technology.
“As Team Nigeria competes in the United States, we celebrate the connections that bring our two countries together through excellence in education, sports, technology, and many other areas,” the mission stated.
The US Mission concluded its message with a goodwill message to the Nigerian team, saying: “Best of luck, Team Nigeria! 🇳🇬”
The 2026 World Athletics U20 Championships will provide a major international platform for Nigeria’s young athletes to compete, gain experience and seek honours for the country on the global stage.
