Police authorities in Nigeria have clarified that the 18 kidnappers reportedly killed by thunderstorm were in Cameroun and not in Adamawa state.
In a statement at the weekend, the Adamawa State police command described as untrue media reports that a cross border banditry thunderstorm killed 18 kidnappers in Tongo local government area of Adamawa border community.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Ngoruje, said in order to keep the record straight, “such incident never happened anywhere in Tongo, Adamawa State as alleged but in Pawati Forest, somewhere in the Cameroun Republic.”
He said, “It’s not in dispute that Tongo local government has borders with villages under the Cameroun Republic which at times criminals comes into border communities and commit crimes. But with this border closure, measures had been taken by the command to prevent such.”
The command, while urging members of the public to disregard such report, equally assured of its commitment to protecting lives and properties.
