Abductors free 317 kidnapped schoolgirls of GSS Jangebe

There were feelers this afternoon that the 317 kidnapped schoolgirls of Government Secondary School, Jangebe in Zamfara State have been freed by the bandits.

They had been kidnapped on the night of February 25, more than a week after 42 students and staff were kidnapped from a school in Kagara, Niger State.

The freed girls, as learnt, were taken to the palace of the Emir of Anka for onward transportation to Gusau, the state capital.

The girls who were kidnapped on Friday night were believed to have been taken to a forest by their abductors who were reportedly said to have disguised as security personnel.

Multiple sources said the girls were kept in the forest between Dangulbi and Sabon Birnin Banaga in the Mary Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Like in the case of the released Kagara, Niger State students and teachers, no details have been given if the authorities paid any ransom before the schoolgirls regained their freedom.

Abduction of school children has become fashionable for the bandits and terrorists operating majorly in the northern part of Nigeria.
