The Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq has reiterated his commitment to affordable and accessible primary health care delivery in line with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC programme.
The Governor said this on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the Progressive Governors Forum organised meeting of the 22 APC states Commissioners of Health and Executive Secretaries of Primary Health Care Development Agencies.
The governor who described primary health as the bedrock of health care delivery said the state government would continue to give priority to primary health care delivery as evident in the strides of administration in the sector since assumption to office.
The Governor also pledged to continue to provide counterpart funding in order to key into health care delivery programmes initiated by the Federal Government and other developmental agencies while wishing participants fruitful deliberations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Country Representative of the World Health Organisation, WHO Dr. Walter Mulombo, said Nigeria as a country has always given priority to affordable and accessible primary health care delivery which he said is commendable and pledged the continued support of the WHO to all states of the federation in the area of primary health care delivery system.
Dr. Mulombo also commended President Muhammad Buhari for initiating and implementing laudable health care delivery development programmes over the years and expressed hope that at the end of the meeting aimed at finding ways of developing primary health care delivery system workable plans will be agreed on.
Director General of The Progressive Governors Forum, Alhaji Salihu Lukman during his APC policy briefing at the ceremony, said the party has always given priority to maternal and child health and would as a political party continue to do so saying that the party’s current programmes are results of carefully made working plans that suits the country.
He expressed regret that the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic slowed down the PGF secretariat but expressed hope that the Commissioners and Executive Secretaries would provide a blueprint for the development of health care delivery development in the APC states.
