Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (APC-Borno South) has decried the unabated attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, specifically on the last Saturday invasion on Ashigashiya village in Gwoza LGA and Kopul village of Askira-Uba lLGA in his Senatorial District.
The separate attacks led to the killing of a disabled household who was consumed in a fire reportedly set up by the terrorists at his house in Ashigashiya.
Many residential houses were also set ablaze with looting of foodstuffs and livestock. Also in Kopul village, there was no casualty recorded, but many houses, shops were destroyed, with displacement of many people who fled into the bush for safety.
Ndume in an interview with our correspondent in Maiduguri on Sunday, commiserated with the victims of the attacks, even as he reiterated his calls on the Federal government to fully equip the military, Police and other security agencies with sophisticated weapons to end Boko Haram atrocities.
He said: “Our Nigerian Armed Forces are doing their best in fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, but they are handicapped in terms of weapons.
“There is the urgent need on the federal government to Train, Equip, Arms and Motivate (TEAM) the military forces.
“Our military and other security agencies should have access to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, fighter jets and drones if really we want to end Boko Haram”. Ndume posited.
He however commended the Nigerian military and other security agencies, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, hunters/vigilantes for their unwavering sacrifices and commitment in the fight terrorism.
Ndume also lauded the Cameroonian Forces who responded swiftly in repelling the Ashigashiya attack, which could have been more devastating.
