Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has extended heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Alfred Emberga, the newly elected Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, following a seamless leadership transition on Sunday, August 24, 2025.
In a statement released on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia praised the smooth and transparent process that led to Emberga’s unanimous election as Speaker, representing Makurdi North Constituency.
“The swift and peaceful election of Hon. Emberga reflects the lawmakers’ dedication to democratic principles and their trust in his leadership,” Alia said, as quoted by Kula.

Emberga’s rise to the speakership followed the unexpected resignation of the former Speaker, Hon. Aondona Dajoh, who stepped down on the same day, citing the best interests of Benue State.
Alia commended Dajoh for his service, noting, “We deeply appreciate Hon. Dajoh’s contributions to the legislature and the progress of Benue over the past two years.”
Expressing optimism about Emberga’s tenure, the governor highlighted his expectation for the Assembly to prioritize laws and policies that uplift the welfare of Benue residents.
“I am confident that under Hon. Emberga’s leadership, the House will work tirelessly to deliver impactful legislation for our people,” Alia stated.
He also called for continued collaboration among the state’s legislative, executive, and judicial arms, emphasizing unity as key to progress.
“Only through cooperation can we achieve sustainable development and ensure the dividends of democracy reach every corner of Benue,” Alia added.
Governor Alia reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting Emberga and the entire Assembly, pledging to work together for the advancement of Benue State.
