Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Elders Council in Anambra has declared its full support for the state’s executive committee, led by Mr. Chidi Chidebe, affirming that the party remains united and stable under its leadership.
In a communique issued after a comprehensive meeting on Friday at the residence of Sen. Ben Ndi-Obi, the PDP leader in Anambra, the council dismissed calls for the dissolution of the state, local government, and ward executives.
“The current leadership is performing exceptionally, engaging all stakeholders effectively,” said Chief Felix Oli and Dr. Odili Ojukwu, chairman and secretary of the council, respectively, who signed the communique.
The council condemned the spread of false claims targeting the legitimately elected state executive, describing such actions as “deeply regrettable.”
They urged the National Working Committee (NWC) and PDP Governors’ Forum to ignore these narratives, warning that entertaining them could destabilize the party’s structure in Anambra and undermine its credibility ahead of the upcoming governorship election and National Convention.
“Any attempt to dissolve the executive would invite instability and weaken our cohesion,” the communique stated, emphasizing that no legal challenges exist against the Anambra executive.
The elders called on the NWC to exercise caution against those spreading misinformation.
The council praised the NWC’s achievements, particularly the transparent state congress that led to the current leadership.
“The NWC’s success in conducting a free and fair congress in Anambra must not be undermined by manipulative influences,” Oli and Ojukwu noted, highlighting the executive’s strong relationship with the NWC and fairness toward all members.
Expressing gratitude to the National Executive Committee, NWC, Governors’ Forum, Board of Trustees, and National Caucus for their stabilizing efforts, the council specifically commended NWC leader Amb. Iliya Damagun.
“From establishing a Caretaker Committee to overseeing the most successful state congress in Anambra PDP’s history, the NWC has shown remarkable leadership,” the communique stated.
To further assess the party’s standing, the council recommended that the NWC convene a stakeholders’ meeting in Anambra to gauge the party’s sentiment.
The elders reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the PDP’s unity and strength in the state as it prepares for future electoral challenges.
