
Anthony Joshua survives road accident
Ogun State Police Command has arraigned the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the accident that reportedly injured British heavyweight boxing star, Anthony Joshua, before a Magistrate Court sitting in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The defendant, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, a 45-year-old male, was brought before Chief Magistrate O.M. Somefun of the Sagamu Magisterial Division on a four-count charge.
According to a statement issued by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the charges stem from the manner in which the defendant allegedly drove the Lexus SUV, leading to a fatal road accident.

Police alleged that Kayode drove in a dangerous manner that endangered members of the public and resulted in a crash that claimed the lives of two persons. The offence, according to the charge sheet, is punishable under Section 5(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F135, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2002, as applicable in Ogun State.
The defendant was also charged with reckless driving, negligence, and driving at a speed without due care, attention, and reasonable consideration for other road users. Police further alleged that his actions caused injuries to Anthony Joshua.
In addition, Kayode was accused of driving without a valid National Driver’s Licence, an offence said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 10(1) of the Federal Highway Act, Cap F135, LFN 2002, as applicable in Ogun State.
After taking the charges, Chief Magistrate Somefun granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦5 million, with two sureties, and ordered that he be remanded pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions.
The case was subsequently adjourned to January 20, 2026, for commencement of trial.
