Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised three terrorist suicide bombers during an intelligence-driven operation along the Guduf–Pulka axis of Gwoza Local Government Area in Borno State, security sources have confirmed.
According to the sources, the operation was carried out after credible intelligence revealed plans by the terrorists to strike civilian targets.
Acting swiftly, troops worked in close coordination with local volunteer forces to intercept the bombers before they could execute their mission.
The sources disclosed that suicide vests and other components of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) found on the attackers were recovered and safely secured by the troops.
In addition to neutralising the bombers, troops reportedly inflicted significant casualties on the terrorist escorts accompanying them, forcing surviving fighters to retreat towards the Mandara Mountains under sustained military pressure.
“During exploitation of the area, troops recovered four AK-47 rifles abandoned by the fleeing terrorists, while two motorcycles used by the terrorists were destroyed,” the sources said.
Preliminary intelligence findings indicate that the neutralised suicide bombers were dispatched from the Mandara Mountains by the Ali Ngulde-led Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction of Boko Haram.
The sources said troops of Operation Hadin Kai have intensified efforts to detect, track and neutralise suicide bombers and other terrorist elements operating from the enclave, leveraging improved human intelligence, communication intercepts and other intelligence-gathering techniques.
They added that the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai has continued to deepen collaboration with sister security agencies and community-based volunteer groups across Borno and Yobe States to prevent attacks on soft targets.
Public awareness campaigns, the sources noted, have also been scaled up to encourage residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or movements within their communities.
Operation Hadin Kai, the sources said, remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups, degrading their capabilities and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the theatre of operations.
