All Progressives Congress (APC) announced on Wednesday in Abuja that while it strongly supports President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election, it will not bar party members from challenging him in the primaries.
Speaking at the party’s national secretariat, National Organising Secretary Alh. Suleiman Argungu emphasized the APC’s democratic stance, stating, “The aspiration of the people will be the wish of the party.
Under the APC platform, we’ll not deny anyone the right to purchase forms. Members are free to exercise their franchise”.
He confirmed that the National Working Committee (NWC), the Sen. Hope Uzodinma-led Progressives Governors Forum, and the Sen. Godswill Akpabio-led National Assembly leadership have all endorsed Tinubu, citing his effective economic policies and governance.
Argungu praised Tinubu’s performance, asserting, “Tinubu deserved a second term in office because he was performing well for the country and its citizens”.
However, he clarified that the party remains open to competition, noting, “When the time comes, we’ll publish our timetable for aspirants wishing to contest the presidency”.
This stance distinguishes the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2014 decision to reserve its presidential form solely for Goodluck Jonathan.
Highlighting the APC’s recent successes, Argungu pointed to the party’s victories in 13 of 16 by-election seats, stating, “These victories are not just statistics; they show the strength, resilience, and growing acceptance of our party nationwide”
He reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to Nigerians’ welfare, security, and prosperity, underscoring Tinubu’s dedication to delivering purposeful leadership.
