APC dissolves NWC, appoints caretaker committee

Mai-Mala Buni, Yobe State Governor and outgoing APC's Chairman, Caretaker Committee

EHIME ALEX, Lagos

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dissolved its National Working Committee (NWC).

The decision came at a virtual meeting President Muhammadu Buhari held on Thursday with members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

Acting national chairman of the party, Victor Giadom, reportedly announced the dissolution of the party’s NWC at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.

Consequently, Yobe Governor, Mai-Mala Buni, was named Chairman caretaker/extra-ordinary convention committee.

He was immediately sworn in by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.

The meeting, which started at noon, was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Ahmad Lawan and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Others NEC members in attendance were State Governors elected under the platform of the APC as well as some National Assembly members.

The governors of Nasarawa, Niger, Jigawa, Pleateau, Imo, Kogi, Yobe, Gombe, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Kebbi, Kano, Kaduna and Ekiti were physically present.

It would be recalled that the party have been thrown into leadership crisis since past week, following the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiohmole as the National Chairman and the endorsement of Victor Giadom as Acting National Chairman for two weeks by a court.

However, majority of the National Working Committee (NWC) members appointed the ailing Deputy National Chairman, South, Sen. Abiola Ajimobi, as the Acting National Chairman.

The National Vice Chairman South South, Hilliard Eta, was subsequently appointed to act on his behalf.

Today’s meeting of NEC, which is the decision making organ of the party, is expected to make or mar the fortunes of the APC.
