Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has directed an immediate investigation into a viral video circulating on social media, in which soldiers reportedly voiced concerns over inadequate food supplies.
The COAS gave the directive in a statement issued by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, on Thursday in Abuja.
The video, which has gained traction across social and mainstream media, shows soldiers displaying food items allegedly provided by military authorities.
While the authenticity and context of the footage remain unverified, Lt.-Gen. Oluyede emphasized the seriousness of the issue.
“The concerns raised in the video will be thoroughly investigated, and the findings will be shared publicly to ensure transparency and accountability,” he stated.
Reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to personnel welfare, the COAS highlighted the “Soldier First” initiative, which prioritizes the well-being, dignity, and operational readiness of troops and their families.
“The welfare of our soldiers is paramount, as it underpins our mission to maintain a motivated, combat-ready force capable of fulfilling its constitutional duties,” Oluyede said.
He urged troops to address grievances through official military channels rather than unauthorized platforms, noting that such actions violate military ethics and discipline.
“Using social media to air operational complaints undermines our standards of professionalism.
“We have established procedures for personnel to raise concerns, and we encourage their use,” he added.
The statement, further, underscored the Army’s dedication to upholding high standards of leadership and integrity. “The Nigerian Army remains committed to fostering a well-motivated force through policies that prioritize troop welfare and operational success,” Anele noted.
“We reassure our personnel and the public that leadership accountability and institutional integrity are central to our ongoing transformation efforts.” She said.
