Asake
Afrobeats sensation Asake is set to headline Spotify’s popular ‘African Heat Playlist’ for a special New Year’s Eve takeover, marking the start of 2026 with Africa’s most energetic sounds.
Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, announced in Lagos that the collaboration will showcase Asake’s hit tracks alongside iconic songs from across the continent.
“African Heat is about capturing the energy and confidence of African music as it exists today. Having Asake as the cover reflects the kind of artistes shaping how African sounds move through the world, rooted at home but resonating everywhere,” Okumu said.
With over one million followers, the African Heat playlist has grown into a global movement, offering African artists a platform to reach new audiences while highlighting the continent’s most influential music and cultural milestones.
“Featuring Asake, one of the most-streamed artistes on Spotify in Sub-Saharan Africa, celebrates the expanding global footprint of African music,” Okumu added, noting that his dominance in recent years—through multiple era-defining albums and sold-out international tours—makes him the ideal choice for the takeover.
“By tapping into the afrobeats star, African Heat continues to push the genre from a regional movement to a leading global cultural force.”
