The Pacific island nation of Kiribati became the first country to usher in 2026, marking the start of global New Year celebrations as clocks struck midnight in its Line Islands.
Festivities will roll out across the world in stages, beginning in Oceania and moving through East Asia, South and Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and finally the Americas.
Following Kiribati, nations such as New Zealand and Australia are set to welcome the New Year with large public gatherings, dazzling fireworks, and lively festivities in major cities.
Several Asian countries, including Japan, South Korea, China, and India, will celebrate shortly after, while Nigeria and other African countries will join in the celebrations several hours later.
In Nigeria, churches are expected to host packed crossover services, and many cities will light up the skies with fireworks to greet 2026.
