Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dachung Musa Bagos, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State.
Bagos, who represented the Jos South/Jos East Federal Constituency from 2019 until November 2023, submitted his resignation letter to the PDP Ward Chairman of Vwang Ward in Jos South Local Government Area over the weekend, stating that the decision takes immediate effect.
In the letter, the former lawmaker explained that his decision followed what he described as “deep reflection and wide consultations,” while expressing appreciation to party leaders and members at the ward, local government, state and national levels for their support throughout his stay in the PDP.
He noted that his time in the party played a significant role in shaping his experience in public service and political engagement.
“I remain sincerely grateful to the party leadership and members for the goodwill I enjoyed during my time in the party,” Bagos stated, adding that he still holds the PDP and its leadership in high esteem.
He also wished the party success in its pursuit of democracy and good governance and urged that the letter be accepted as his formal notice of resignation.
While addressing his supporters shortly after his defection, Bagos disclosed that he joined the APC alongside key political stakeholders loyal to Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang.
He stressed the need for collective alignment with the governor’s political direction, describing the current political moment as one that demands unity, sacrifice and strategic thinking.
“We already know we are contesting for the Senate. What we need to understand now is where we are going and what our leader is saying.”
Bagos further emphasised the importance of loyalty and coordination among his supporters as they navigate the new political direction.
Also speaking at the gathering, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Istifanus Mwansat, confirmed that he was addressing the crowd as a full-fledged member of the APC, having resigned from the PDP and completed his registration.
Mwansat described the wave of defections into the APC as a demonstration of trust and loyalty to Governor Mutfwang, whom he described as the political leader of the moment.
According to him, the alignment was informed by the belief that the governor’s decision to work with the APC was in the overall interest of Plateau State and its people.
He added that the move was also aimed at strengthening the state’s political relevance at the national level, including contributing meaningfully to the electoral fortunes of President Bola Tinubu.
Mwansat urged supporters who were yet to resign from the PDP to do so without delay, warning that dual party membership is not recognised by law.
