Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed
By ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has described the attack on the house of a former governor of the state, Ahmed Adamu Mu’azu, as a big afront and an insult to the entire state.
Governor Mohammed stated this on Tuesday when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the former governor and the people of Boto in Tafawa Balewa LGA of the state.
Recall that gunmen suspected to be bandits last week attacked the family house of Mua’azu, who is also a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where they shot and killed one person and abducted three people including his (Mu’azu’s sister).
During his sympathy visit, Mohammed who was accompanied by the PDP Chairman in the State, Hamza Akuyam and top government officials in the state, said that the government knows the route of the bandits.
He vowed that the security agencies will go after them, apprehend and also bring them to justice.
The governor charged the people not to sleep but to be watchful and defend themselves against criminal elements.
According to him, some of the villagers connive and give information to the bandits which aid them in carrying out their nefarious activities.
He said: “Those people who came here (Mu’azu’s house), the hooligans, the miscreants and the charlatans, came to insult us.
“It is a big afront and we want to take it as such. We will not sleep until we get them, we will not sleep until we protect our leaders.. ..you can see that this is a typical village settlement”.
“It is not his fault that his relations are here, but certainly, we have to protect everybody and we know they have informants here and there.
“Our security agencies are working very hard and we are going to take different measures. Some of those measures that are outside the security rules of engagement.
“We are going to use vigilante and community relations. We must get information from you, from your district heads, from your village heads and from your local government leaders so that we will be able to put heads together.
“Please, don’t sleep because nobody will do that for you, you have to protect yourselves, you have to stand up, they cannot overcome us, we have to overcome them.
“We are going to make sure that we make some very good arrangements in a manner that will complement the structured security agencies are doing in terms of vigilante and so on.
“I have already directed the Chairman of this local government (Tafawa Balewa) and other people involved and we are going to do it in a community manner such that we will protect ourselves.
“We know their routes, they’re coming from Plateau, through Kurgwi, through Kardam, through Lere and so on and so forth. Insha allahu, since we know their routes, and with technology, we will be able to get them.
“But please, be rest assured that the government commiserates with you and your family and we are not going to rest on our oars until we are able to get to these hoodlums. They are going to be very daring but we are going to be more daring.”
