The Deputy Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Danlami Kawule, has faulted Governor Samuel Ortom over his statement that Governor Bala Mohammed is a terrorist.

He called on him (Ortom) to apologize to the people of Bauchi State for making such derrogatory statement against their governor.

He stated this in an interview with journalists in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Hon. Kawule who represents Zungur/Galambi in the state Assembly, said that the citizens of Bauchi as well as the Peoples Democratic Party, in the state are not happy over the strain in relationship between the two PDP governors who are supposed to be working towards the unity of the nation.

According to him, leaders in the country should refrain from making utterances that has the capacity to heat up the polity, pointing out that no nation can progress in a state of chaos.

He said: “As far as I am concerned, Governor Ortom needs to apologise to the people of Bauchi State for tagging Governor Mohammed as a terrorist because Bauchi people are not terrorists neither is the Governor. Such statement should not come out from the mouth of a leader who happens to be a mouth piece of the people who everybody look forward to as a role model”.

“For him to say that if you cannot follow the law in Benue state, go to Bauchi State and pick AK47 is very dehumanizing. What does Governor Ortom mean by such a statement? That statement is an abusive word. We are not happy over this development because Bauchi State is the most secured place in the country where other neighbouring states who are bedeviled by insecurity come to settle”.

“Governor Mohammed has been working hard to foster peaceful coexistence in the country and not to disintegrate it.When he said fulanis herds should defend themselves, it was not to create tension in the country, but to profer solutions to the insecurity problems in the country.”

Meanwhile, the Arewa Youths for Peace and Development has lambasted Ortom for calling Governor Mohammed Abdulkadir a terrorist.

The Chairman of the group, Salihu Mohammed stated this on Tuesday at Zaranda Hotel Bauchi, while addressing a press conference said Governor Mohammed is a true nationalist who always defends the interest of the masses and oppressed, adding that to call him a terrorist is unacceptable, erroneous and unfair.

“We are demanding an unreserved apology to Nigerians by Governor ortom for fanning the embers of disunity in the Country for his reckless statements and actions. Governor ortom unguarded utterances is a cover up for his allegedly dastardly act of sponsoring thugs that maimed and killed many Fulani Herdsmen in Benue with the aim of fueling hatred and envy.

“He has no regard for the oath of office and for his own selfish interest, is moving in a wrong direction which if he is not careful may not finish well in office. By referring to a respected serving governor as a terrorist, he has displayed an act of criminality and thuggery in governance.”

He added that: “He lacks respect for the office and status of the governor as well as the constitution of Nigeria. He is creating unnecessary tension when there is no need for it”.

“Today, Benue is very insecure, everyday people are being killed, maimed and chased out of the state. The governor and his thugs continue to intimidate people, which is a gross violation of the fundamental human rights of the Nigerian citizen in the name of anti grazing laws”.

“As a leader, you are suppose to have respect for human beings, protect them and provide social services to your people, not to be making reckless statements or abusing a Governor and his office with the aim to tarnishing his image and reputation. All these acts by Governor Ortom is to cover for his lack of performance through false allegations”.

The Chairman said that Ortom’s accusations lately is a clear indication that he is an enemy of Nigeria as he is busy fighting Justice and peace of the country even as he called on the Benue State House of Assembly to commence impeachment process against Governor Ortom for violating the oath of office he swore to defend.
