Bauchi South Senator, Shehu Buba Umar
By ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
Bauchi State Emirate Council has stripped Bauchi South Senator, Shehu Buba Umar of his traditional title of ‘Majidadin Bauchi’.
This was contained in a statement addressed to the Senator, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), dated August 14, 2024, and signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate Council’s secretary.
The letter alleged that Senator Umar disrespected and humiliated Governor Bala Mohammed.
According to the letter, the withdrawal of the traditional title from the senator followed a meeting of the council held on Wednesday which was chaired by the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Suleiman Adamu.
The letter which was written in Hausa said that the meeting deliberated on the Senator’s alleged misdemeanour and consequently resolved to derobe him as a traditional title holder of the emirate.
The council specifically accused Senator Umar of disrespecting and humiliating the Bauchi State Governor.
It said that such actions were at variance with the teachings and culture of the Bauchi Emirate.
Recall that Senator Shehu Umar, in a recent chat with journalists accused Governor Mohammed, who holds the title of Kauran Bauchi, of short-changing the people of the state with regards to some palliative items sent to the state by the APC-led Federal Government.
He alleged that some palliatives such as rice, corn and fertilizer sent to the state by the Federal Government for distribution to the people of the state to cushion the effects of economic hardship were sold out by the state government.
The first time Senator accused Governor Bala of being responsible for poverty, hunger and anger in the state for short changing the people of the state by not releasing the 70 trucks of guinea corn, 70 trucks of fertilizer, 20 trucks of rice donated to the people of the state by the Federal Government.
He therefore said that the Bauchi State Government should be blamed for the hunger and poverty being experienced in the state and not the APC-led Federal Government.
The Bauchi Emirate Council, had, in January 2022, stripped former of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, of his traditional title of “Jakadan Bauchi”.
Dogara, who, at the time he was stripped of the title, was the member representing Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency.
His suspension was in connection with attacks on the convoys of the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaimanu Adamu and Alhaji Biliyaminu Othman respectively on 31st December 2021 by hoodlums on their way to Mwari for the 21st anniversary of a late leader and crusader, Peter Gonto.
