Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Peter Akpe
Bayelsa State House of Assembly has confirmed Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, following his nomination by Governor Douye Diri.
Akpe’s appointment became necessary after the office was declared vacant due to the death of former deputy governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo in December 2025.

Lawmakers approved the nomination after reviewing his credentials and public service record.
Before his confirmation, Akpe served as Chief of Staff at Government House, Yenagoa, where he played a key role in coordinating government activities and supporting the governor’s administrative agenda.
A seasoned administrator and politician, Akpe previously represented his constituency as a two-term member of the state assembly. He also built a long career in the civil service, rising to the rank of Director before taking up senior political appointments, including Deputy Chief of Staff and Acting Chief of Staff.
The new deputy governor holds a PhD and is widely known as a Christian minister, often addressed as Hon. (Dr) or Pastor Peter Akpe. His confirmation is expected to strengthen governance in Bayelsa State, as the Diri administration moves forward following the leadership transition.
