By THOMAS AKASE, Makurdi –
Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA) has confirmed that 15 babies have been born at the newly established Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp for residents of Yelwata community, Guma Local Government Area, while 122 women are still pregnant.
Head of Administration at BSEMA, Mr. Donald Komgbenda, disclosed while addressing newsmen on Monday in Makurdi.

According to him, a total of 4,685 IDPs have been registered, comprising 2,960 females and 1,725 males.
“We have 2,960 females, out of which 122 are pregnant, and 1,725 males,” Komgbenda stated.
Despite the challenges faced by the IDPs, Komgbenda commended donor agencies for their support in ensuring the IDPs enjoy some comfort while in camp.
However, the camp still lacks basic amenities such as electricity and adequate water supply. “This place is a market; there is no light, water, or toilets, but discussions are ongoing to resolve the challenges,” Komgbenda said.
To address the water shortage, the agency is providing six trucks of water daily to meet the minimum water needs of the people.
The IDP camp, housing 1,739 households, continues to face significant challenges, with efforts underway to improve the living conditions of the displaced persons.
