Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia
By THOMAS AKASE, Makurdi –
The Zone “A” Peoples’ Assembly (ZAPA) has called on Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State to declare a state of emergency on security to address the escalating security challenges in the state.
ZAPA President, Mr. Fanen Mondo, made the call at a press conference on Sunday in Makurdi.
Mr. Mondo blamed armed herders, including foreign mercenaries, for the attacks, killings, and displacement of communities.
We urge him to rise to the occasion. Benue does not need a silent governor; we need a field commander, ready to defend our ancestral land,” Mondo said.
He therefore urged Governor Alia to personally lead the response and engage the Federal Government over the crisis.
Mondo also accused politicians in the state of failing to speak out on the issue, instead choosing to politicize the crisis.
“This silence is not neutrality; it is complicity. And the people of Benue see it for what it is,” he said.
The group further urged President Bola Tinubu to stand by the people of Benue in their time of need and called for immediate and decisive military action to end the killings and provide humanitarian support to affected communities.
