Borno State First Lady, Dr. Falmata Babagana Zulum has officially launched the “Her Seat in Parliament and governance campaign in Maiduguri.
A statement issued and jointly signed by Barrister Fatimah Mustapha Zannah, the Chairperson and Elizabeth Ameh, the Secretary said this initiative aims to increase women’s representation in parliament and promote good governance.
During the flag-off ceremony at the Government House, Dr. Zulum expressed her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting the abundance of capable women politicians in Borno State who can effectively represent the interests of women both within and outside the state.
She promised support to the program and encouraged women to support this initiative to make it a success.
The Chairperson of the Nigeria League of Women Voters (NILOWV) Borno State, Hajiya Zara, commended Dr. Falmata Zulum for honoring their invitation and solicited her support for the project.
She explained that the “Her Seat in Parliament” initiative is a bill currently being sponsored by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who has demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting women’s participation in politics and also highlighted the reason NiLOWV collaborating with NAWOJ.
She added that the Bill aims to secure 182 seats across the country, with three seats allocated to each state.
FLAG-OFF CEREMONY
The flag off ceremony took.place.at the Women development centre, Maiduguri.

The event featured Commissioner of Women Affairs, Honourable Zuwaira Gambo, who represented the first lady, Dr Falmata Zulum, members of NILOWV and NAWOJ.
In her speech Honourable Gambo said she stood in for the First lady , Dr.Mrs Falmata Zulum who has officially flagged off the “Her seat in the Parliament” campaign and urged women to do their best in supporting their fellow women.
The commissioner in her own capacity promised her unalloyed support to the success of the project and urged both NAWOJ and NILOWV to work in unity to achieve the desired success.
The Chairperson of NAWOJ Borno State, Hajiya Fstimah Mustapha Zannah emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting women in politics and encouraged women to vie for special seats.
She lamented the sayings that women are the enemies of their fellow women and urged the women to prove the society wrong on this notion by giving total support to their fellow women, adding it is only a woman, who can understand the plight of her fellow women.

Earlier the chairperson of NiLOWV, Hajiya Zara Bukar, commended the efforts of women who came for the flag-off and urged then not to relent in their campaign to see that women in all crannies are informed about their rights to politics and her seats in the parliament.
She said NiLOWV as parts of their mandates support women both financially and politically through their voters to enable her to succeed.
The chairperson emphasized the importance of Nawoj collaboration with NiLOWV, which she described as a strong tool for creating wider awareness and promoting women’s participation in governance.
NAWOJ and NILOWV also paid a courtesy visit to the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Abubakar Ibn Garba El-kanemi to seek hs fatherly blessings.
They also visited.ALGON chairman who happens to be the Chairman of MMC, Hon Ali Umar Bolori. He promised the support of all the chairmen for the success of the initiative.
