Borno Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) on Wednesday said the state has recorded no fewer than 17 cases of cholera outbreak.
The General Manager RUWASSA, Mohammed Musa Aliyu, who disclosed this in a statement, said the suspected cases dated August 8, were reported from Baleri settlement in Ngamdu Ward of Kaga Local Government Area of the state.
Alhaji Aliyu explained that various sampling was carried out in Umaru Shehu Ultra-modern General Hospital in Maiduguri as well as The University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), of which 17 cholera cases were confirmed.
He added that 14 people have been discharged, 2 persons have died while one active cases was recorded in the state.
Alhaji Aliyu, recalled that when the outbreak was first reported in Ngamdu Ward, the agency acted promptly as informed by the office of SSA and SA, Lawan Bukar Ngamdu and Muhammad through the directive of the state Executive Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum.
According to him, directives were given for the immediate distribution of medical kits such as chorine, sprayer, water disinfectant, face mask, handcloves, rain boots etc which would be used for the containment of cholera outbreak
He further noted that a medical team was mobilized to facilitate a 3 day exercise on WASH awareness campaign and all necessary steps in preventing occurrence of the disease at Kaga LGA, through the collaboration of the primar healthcare workers.
