Nigerian content creator and musician Oderhohwo Efe, better known as Carter Efe, has etched his name into Africa’s digital history after emerging as the continent’s most-followed streamer on Twitch.
The entertainer achieved the milestone on the back of a blockbuster livestream featuring global Afrobeats star Davido, which drew a staggering 83,000 live viewers—the highest ever recorded for a Twitch broadcast in Africa. The feat also made Carter Efe the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 subscribers on the platform.
In the process, Efe overtook fellow Nigerian creator Adesokan Emmanuel, popularly known as Shank Comics, to claim the top spot on the continent. Platform data shows that he now boasts over 405,000 followers on Twitch.
The growth has been nothing short of meteoric. With about 322,000 followers earlier in the week, Efe gained roughly 160,000 new followers in just four days, a surge widely attributed to the hype and execution of the much-talked-about Davido livestream.
Beyond the numbers, the broadcast delivered unforgettable moments. Davido used the opportunity to link Efe with several high-profile personalities, including his wife and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, while also making a direct call-out to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy.
Fans were further thrilled when Davido dialled Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, whose surprise appearance added a sporting flavour to the already electric session. The excitement peaked again when fellow content creator Enzo burst onto the stream, humorously challenging Carter Efe to an impromptu boxing match to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s 30BG fan base.
Clips from the livestream have since gone viral, sparking widespread conversations across social media and reinforcing Carter Efe’s growing influence in Africa’s fast-rising streaming and creator economy.
